"Unmasking Mass Incarceration: A Community Event"

The Colorado Mass Incarceration Coalition (MIC) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting an after-event for the MLK Marade this January 20th, 2013, on Auraria Campus in the Tivoli Turnhalle. (For those of you who are already on our lists, MIC was formerly the Private Prison Working Group/Mass Incarceration Roundtable.)

"Unmasking Mass Incarceration: A Community Event" will follow the MLK Marade and be a sort of People’s Movement Assembly, where individuals will have the opportunity to learn more about mass incarceration, have their voices heard, network, and organize for the future. To learn more about People's Movement Assemblies, visit

The MIC aims to unite all those organizations and communities in Colorado that are either directly impacted by mass incarceration or working to end it, or both. These include groups from a number of backgrounds, including immigrants’ rights, racial justice, workers’ rights, drug policy, criminal justice reform, civil rights, police accountability, LGBTI rights, tax justice, and more. While many of our individual efforts in the past have been successful, together we wield far more power.
